TEACHING THE META CONCEPTS IN A GROUP SETTING

The Meta Concepts have been successfully taught in high school and adult settings. A leader will want to purchase the full Meta Concept Study Workbook. Assuming you have at least 45 minutes, I would recommend the following:

HIGH SCHOOL OR MIDDLE SCHOOL: (FOUR WEEK INITIAL STUDY)

  1. With the entire group review The Core Elements of a Biblical Worldview (Week One). Everyone should be given a copy.

    • Help them understand the Storyline of the Bible. Prepare yourself by reading the Introduction, especially the section on “Stories”.

    • Ask them to repeat, out loud the five Core Elements each week. This will help their retention of these important concepts.

  2. Spend two to three weeks reading together and discussing The Meta Narrative (The Grand Story) of the Bible. It’s critical that they get the big picture before they dive into the rest of the Meta Concepts.
  3. NOTE: While you could give them all this material ahead of time to read, most won’t.

  4. If you decide to continue studying the Meta Concepts, pass out copies of each Meta Concept with the Scripture References each week.

NOTE: At the beginning of this phase of the study, also pass out the Table of Contents, so they get an idea of where they are going. If students want to read ahead, they can go to www.meta-concepts.org

ADULT STUDY GROUPS: (EIGHTEEN TO TWENTY WEEK STUDY)

  1. A week before your first meeting, pass out the Introduction, Summary of the Core Elements of a Biblical Worldview, and The Meta Narrative (The Grand Story) of the Bible. Ask them to read this material prior to your first meeting.

  2. With the entire group review A Summary of the Core Elements of a Biblical Worldview (Week One).
    • What do they think of the “second gospel” idea?

    • Help them understand the Storyline of the Bible.

    • Ask them to repeat, out loud the five Core Elements, at the beginning of every meeting. This will help their retention of these important concepts.

  3. Spend two to three weeks reading together and discussing The Meta Narrative of the Bible. It’s critical that they get the storyline before they dive into the rest of the Meta Concepts themselves.

  4. If you decide to continue, pass out copies of each Meta Concept and Scripture References each week, in advance of the teaching.

NOTE: At the beginning of this study phase, also pass out the Table of Contents, so they get an idea of where they are going. If they want to read ahead, they can go to the Meta Concepts Website: www.meta-concepts.org

  5. Each week have the entire group read out loud the Meta Concept, paragraph by paragraph, and ask for questions or comments. This makes it easier because the writings are the teachings. The leader will have the appendixes and additional readings, which ought to enable them to expand on the teaching and clarify some of the ideas taught.

NOTE: All Meta Concepts may be photocopied for educational use only, but may not be edited, published or sold.
